The Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge occupies a high valley through which the Black Water River Flows. The trail system that wanders through the refuge takes visitors through hardwood and coniferous forest and past a variety of wetlands. True to its name wildlife viewing opportunities are ample at the refuge.
